Introduction

Chemical peels, as intimidating as they can sound, are actually an easy with little to no downtime treatment option to take your skin to the next level of radiant. Chemical peels address common skin concerns including dull or dry skin, hyperpigmentation or sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, large pore size, acne scarring and more!

1. What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are a professional skincare treatment designed to resurface the outer layers of the skin. By using a medical-grade blend of acids and active ingredients, they gently exfoliate and remove dull, damaged skin cells. This process reveals a brighter, smoother, and more even complexion. Chemical peels improves common skin concerns such as hyperpigmentation, sun and age spots, fine lines, acne scars, active acne, and overall texture and skin tone improvement.

3. Who Can Benefit from a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels provide numerous benefits, making them a versatile treatment for a variety of skin types and concerns:

  • Smoother Skin Texture: Peels help to reduce roughness, improving the skin’s overall texture for a more polished look.

  • Reduction of Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Regular peels stimulate collagen production, which softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Even Skin Tone: Chemical peels can diminish dark spots, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation, leading to a more balanced and even complexion.

  • Clearer Skin: By deeply cleansing and minimizing clogged pores, peels can help reduce active acne and prevent future breakouts.

4. The Chemical Peel Process: What to Expect Before, During & After

Pre-Treatment:

Depending on the type of peel, you may be required to follow a specific skincare routine to properly prepare your skin. This will be thoroughly discussed with you during your consultation.

Application:

During the treatment, the chemical peel solution is applied to your skin, where it begins exfoliating and renewing the outer layers. Most patients find the process painless, though some may experience a mild tingling sensation in the first few minutes after application.

Appointments are typically quick, lasting about 20-30 minutes.

Post-Treatment:

After your peel, we’ll provide detailed aftercare instructions, along with any necessary products to support your skin’s healing. This ensures a smooth recovery process and maximizes the results of your treatment. Depending on the strength of the peel you can expect varying degrees of skin redness, dryness and peeling for 1-5 days depending on which peel you undergo.

Follow-Up:

Follow-up appointments are important to monitor your progress and ensure your skin is responding well to the treatment. These check-ins help with ongoing care and maintenance to achieve optimal skincare results.

6. How to Choose the Right Chemical Peel for You

In order to decipher which peel is right for you we always recommend a formal consultation to discuss your skin type, sensitivities and aesthetic goals. Depending on the peel, the consult and peel may both be completed at the same appointment.

7. Common Misconceptions About Chemical Peels

Some common misconceptions we here about chemical peels include the following

  • Chemical Peels are Extremely Painful

    • The chemical peels offered at Nakd aesthetics are generally very well tolerated and rarely cause discomfort. If any discomfort is present it is usually a couple seconds as the peel solution is being applied and is often described as a light tingly or stinging sensation. After the peel for some clients their skin may feel more sensitive. Aside from these two sensations, if all precautions and pre and post care instructions are followed, the chemical peel process at Nakd Aesthetics is generally very well tolerated and often pain free!

  •  Chemical Peel Are Only for Old People

    • This could not be further from the truth! If you experience any of the aforementioned skin concerns such as large pore size, acne or acne scarring, hyperpigmentation or sun damage, dull or dry skin then you are a great chemical peel candidate and will love the results it provides!

  • You Will Look Terrible After a Chemical Peel

    • The chemical peels offered at Nakd Aesthetics do not look terrible after treatment. If you decide with your provider the strongest peel is what your skin would most benefit from then immediately after that your skin may appear red similar to a sunburn. This is generally the first 1-2 days. After which your skin simply appears dry, peely or flaky. Most clients note that others are not even aware that they recently did a chemical peel and any adverse side effects last for a maximum of 5-7 days after treatment. After which, you’re left with more glowy, even and smoother skin!

9. Chemical Peels vs. Other Exfoliation Methods

A common question we receive is the difference between chemical peels and microneedling.

In short, microneedling physically causes microtrauma or micro injuries to the skin that stimulate collagen and elastin production improving skin tone and texture whereas chemical peels use chemical solutions to exfoliate the skin. Results from chemical peels can be seen relatively quickly after the procedure, whereas microneedling results may take more frequent sessions and longer to fully develop tangible results.

10. How Often Should You Get a Chemical Peel?

This is truly based on many individualistic factors that our Physician Assistant providers at Nakd Aesthetics would walk you through. The chemical peels offered at Nakd Aesthetics are recommended generally during the Fall and Winter months.  Depending on your skin type and aesthetic goals the chemical peels we offer at Nakd Aesthetics may be able to be repeated every 4 to 6 weeks.
